The father of Packers wide receiver Donald Driver says he was beaten by Houston police following after being pulled over for a traffic violation. Marvin Driver Jr. says officers took him behind a gasoline station around 2am, and where he suffered a severe beating.
Unfortunately, you know as well as I do that this story would probably not have received media attention had it not been for the fact that Marvin Driver is the father of an NFL football star.
If the report is accurate, the Houston Police Department has a serious problem on their hands.
In 2007, Greg Jennings believed he was the victim of racial profiling when he was pulled over late at night in his home town of Kalamazoo, Michigan, simply because he was a young black man in an expensive SUV.
Jennings said he knew something was different when he overheard the police dispatcher say over the radio "It's Greg Jennings, the football star," and was immediately let go by the arresting officer. Jennings filed a complaint with the department, but took no further action. The chief issued a brief apology.
Sometimes is takes a famous person to experience an act of discrimination or a hate crime to remind us that bigotry and prejudice still thrive in America.
Green Bay - - Imagine having dinner with Brett Favre and Bart Starr at the Lambeau Field Atrium, as former nose tackle Gilbert Brown, and center Frank Winters are inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame.
One catch. The tickets are already sold out.
The 1,000 tickets to the annual Packers Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Banquet were already sold out before today's announcement that Favre and Starr were added to the list of V.I.P's, and would share the head table as presenters.
Imagine what scalpers/fanatics will now be offering to buy those tickets? Keep an eye on E-bay.
Favre has agreed to come back to present his former center and friend from the Super Bowl XXXI team Frank Winters. Starr will present another inductee, long-time team video director Al Treml. Former defensive lineman Santana Dotson will have the honors for Gilbert "The Gravedigger" Brown.
The Packers Hall of Fame is located inside the Lambeau Field Atrium. The 38th Induction Banquet is scheduled for Saturday, July 19th, 2008.
"THE THREE AMIGOS" NOW "DOS AMIGOS"
Favre, Winters, and tight end Mark Chmura were the closest of friends in the mid-90's. But there was a falling out with Chmura after he left the team due to a neck injury, followed by involvement in a 2000 scandal, attending a high school prom post party, in which he drank with teens in a hot tub, and was accused of having sexual contact with a underage female. All charges were dropped. More on Chmura trial:
In 2005, during a recording session, Favre asked me "has that thing down in Milwaukee with 'Chewy" blown over yet? I should call him." Apparently Favre didn't get around to it.
When Favre decided to wait the following spring, until late April, to decide whether to return with the Packers, Chmura was quoted nationwide as saying Favre "...is a selfish guy. He's a very selfish guy. And what people don't know, I'm not going to say this to throw the guy under the bus, but this is a guy from my arrest to my acquittal never called me one time." Chmura says he reached out by attending the funeral of Favre's father, Irv, in 2003.

FOX SPORTS RADIO IN MILWAUKEE TONIGHT!
It's the best sports show in America, coast - to - coast. J.T. "The Brick" on FSR's "Game Time React" is broadcasting live from Kelly's Bleachers, 52nd & Bluemound, in Milwaukee tonight from 9pm to 1am, heard weeknights on 1250 WSSP-AM.
Say hi to J.T. and the FSR staff tonight for me. I'm a wuss.
I'm doing early morning sports updates on "The Doug Russell Show" from 5am to 9am. Otherwise I'd be there with you to close Kelly's with J.T. and the gang. They called and asked where can they get a bite to eat around 2am after the show. I told them Ma Fishers, The Forum II, Pizza Shuttle (delivers to their downtown hotel until 3am) or any nearby George Webbs. All fine places, but strange we don't really have that many 24 hour choices in Milwaukee. What am I missing? E-mail me suggestions to
NFL - "SPYGATE OVER" FOR NOW
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says after months of investigation, and interviews with 50 people, “Spygate” is over.
Goodell met with former Patriots video guy Matt Walsh, who told Goodell there is no tape of the Rams walk-thru the day before Super bowl XXXVI.
Walsh said today he did attend the walk thru, and reported to a Patriots assistant coach that Marshall Faulk lined up to return a kickoff, and made note of shifts the Rams tight ends would make againstdefensive formations.
Faulk did return a kick just before that half in that game, but ended up going out of bounds.
And Favre will golf in the American Celebrity Championship in July near Lake Tahoe, an event Aaron Rodgers played in last year.
Besides Favre will be joined by NASCAR driver Dale Jarrett, actor Aidan Quinn, sports announcer Joe Buck, baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith, former All-Star outfielder Darryl Strawberry and 11-time national sportswriter-of-the-year Rick Reilly. Returning celebrities include Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Tony Romo, Dennis Miller, Ray Romano, Mario Lemieux, Dan Marino, LaDainian Tomlinson, John Elway and Jerry Rice.
