If Brett Favre decided he wanted to return to the NFL, he could simply file some paper work with the NFL. Packers GM Ted Thompson would then have 24 hours to decide whether to put Favre back on the active roster, (then likely start working on a possible trade) or release him, allowing Favre become a free agent and get picked up by the team of his choice.
