Green Bay - - Sports Illustrated's 80 - page tribute to Brett Favre is scheduled to arrive in stores Monday. But Saturday, first editions were on sale in locations around Green Bay where the Packers Fan Fest is underway inside the Lambeau Field Atrium. Copies were being sold at a nearby Wallgreens.
The issue is filled with photojournalist and Wisconsin native John Biever's work over the years covering Favre. John is the son of legendary NFL still photographer Vernon Biever of Port Washington, who has covered the Packers since the 1940's through Lambeau, Lombardi, and Holmgren. But is was his son John who shot the famous photo of Bart Starr's quarterback sneak to win the Ice Bowl. John was just helping out that day. He was 14. There are shots inside the Packers locker room just before kickoff. A rare shot of Jerry Glanville standing next to the kid he only called "Mississippi." A young Favre at training camp in Green Bay being swarmed by autograph seekers. Plenty of shots from games over the years. A great photo I'd never seen before of his touchdown run in Super Bowl XXXI. On the back is a funny full page ad from Snapper showing Favre standing next to one of their rider mowers that says "Congrats Brett". Ya, you're going to want to pick up a copy. - Mike Clemens
